Statement by Congressman Joseph R. Pitts on Lethal Drug Abuse
Prevention Act, (H.R. 4006), July 14, 1998

Mr. Chairman, thank you for the opportunity to speak in support of H.R. 4006, the Lethal Drug Abuse Prevention Act of 1998. This bill will prohibit the dispensing or distribution of a controlled substance in order to cause or assist suicide or euthanasia.
Mr. Chairman, I strongly believe that we can and must do better for our disabled and ill citizens than kill them. You cannot solve problems by getting rid of the people to whom the problems happen. When a teenager says her life is not worth living because she has lost her boyfriend, we don't say, "Well, that's her choice." We recognize it as a cry for help, as a view that can and will be changed.
Statistics show that of those who attempt suicide and are stopped, less than 5% have gone on to kill themselves five years later. What a tragedy it would be for the more than 95% who survived if we had turned our backs and not tried to stop them from taking their lives. Sadly, that is exactly what opponents of H.R. 4006 seek to do.

I know that it will be said it is different for those who are terminally ill. But a study published in the American Journal of Psychiatry found that of the 24% who are terminally ill who said they wanted to die, all were suffering from clinically diagnosable depression. Depression is an illness, and it distorts judgment. We should treat it in terminally ill individuals as much as in others.
Let no one suppose, however, that this is an issue that applies only to the terminally ill. Authorizing assisted suicide for those with terminal illness is only the tip of the iceberg. We can see what happened in the Netherlands. In 1981, a Dutch court said that under certain conditions, a doctor could assist a terminally ill person's suicide. In 1982, another court extended that to elderly people who were not terminally ill, but in chronic bad health, a decision upheld by the Dutch Supreme Court in 1984. In 1986, the Dutch Supreme Court said that people with disabilities could be killed.

In 1989 Holland moved from voluntary assisted suicide to nonvoluntary euthanasia when the Supreme Court said that doctors could give lethal injections to children born with Down syndrome. In 1991 a Dutch court legitimized killing a 25 year old woman with mental illness, and in 1994 the Supreme Court said that a woman, with no physical illness or disability, but who was depressed because of the death of her last remaining child, could be killed.

Once you accept the view that death is a solution to human problems, it becomes very hard to draw lines. Gradually, it will be seen as an answer to more and more problems, for less and less weighty reasons. We in America must not start down that road.
My colleagues from Oregon argue that Congress has no business in this area, that it should be left entirely up to the state of Oregon. They miss the point that we are talking about federally controlled drugs. Under existing federal law, it is generally illegal to dispense or distribute these drugs unless you have a special license or "registration" from the federal government. If you are a medical practitioner or pharmacist, you are granted that federal registration to prescribe certain of these federally controlled substances for a legitimate medical purpose.
Congress passed the Controlled Substances Act in the first place because drug abuse is a national problem. A state cannot nullify the federal law if it chooses, as a matter of state law, to legalize the use of heroin or LSD. The same Attorney General who overturned the ruling of the professionals at the federal Drug Enforcement Administration on this matter has successfully gotten injunctions to close cannabis clubs in California that were selling marijuana for supposed medicinal purposes as authorized by a California referendum.

Mr. Chairman, you can't have it both ways. If my distinguished colleagues from Oregon really want to assert states' rights, they should be pushing for the complete repeal of the federal Controlled Substances Act. But while it is in effect, for the federal government to permit the dispensing of otherwise prohibited federally controlled drugs to kill patients means the federal government is affirmatively facilitating assisted suicide.

The American people don't want this to happen, by a margin of more than 2 to 1. A Wirthlin Worldwide poll in March found that 65% oppose allowing the use of "federally controlled drugs for the purpose of assisted suicide and euthanasia."
Mr. Chairman, the Declaration of Independence describes life as something that is "inalienable"--a right so fundamental that it cannot be given away even voluntarily. The principal author of the Declaration, Thomas Jefferson, wrote in 1809 that "The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only legitimate object of good government."

Our country stands at a crossroads between the way of death and the way of life. I urge that this subcommittee lead us in the life-affirming direction by reporting out the Lethal Drug Abuse Prevention Act of 1998.

Euthanize Congress....good for the goose....

"...preserve sound judgment and discernment, do not let them out of your sight; they will be life for you..." (Proverbs 3:21)

So...as long as the slaughter of unborn babies and the assisted deaths of elderly ill are kept under the auspices of free choice and "legal" and can't actually  be witnessed by most of us it's okey-dokey but when it's a murderer on death row being electrocuted or a country wiped out by an earthquake or hurricane that project images on the news THEN the hearts of the liberals go pitter patter?????  And they now call themselves PROGRESSIVE?  AND they want me to help PAY for their "right" to commit these horrific crimes against humanity with their "healthcare reform?" 
 
I guess the best thing I can say is STAY AWAY FROM MY LOVED ONES IDIOT!!

Assisted suicide = medical treatment?

Mercy killings have increased in the Netherlands as the number of euthanasia cases rose by 200 for a total of 2,500 last year, but because reporting cases to the government is voluntary, exact figures are not available.
 
"Even under the self-reporting, it is acknowledged by the Dutch at least that...not everybody's reporting," says Rita Marker, head of the International Task Force on Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide. "And yet that was their very reason that they gave for legalizing euthanasia because it had been practiced for years. And then when they finally legalized it they said, 'Well, this way we'll have a better handle on it. We'll know what's happening. It will be more carefully done' -- and in fact, that isn't what's happened."
 
Marker notes that people have become desensitized and no longer blink an eye at euthanasia, and she feels that is an important point of concern because assisted suicide is now considered to be "medical treatment" in three American states. She is also troubled about the possibility that healthcare reform may lead to assisted suicide.
 
"Whether they foresee it that way or not, there is the law of unintended consequences, and when something becomes a medical treatment and it is the least expensive medical treatment, it's just carrying it to its logical conclusion," Marker explains. "So while someone who votes for the healthcare reform bill may not have that in mind, it is inevitable once you transform assisted suicide into a medical treatment."
 
A Baltimore Planned Parenthood executive recently made a statement to Forbes magazine that insurance companies prefer abortions because it costs less than medical bills for carrying an unborn child to term. That raises the question of whether the same logic might apply to end-of-life issues.

ONE NATION UNDER SIEGE

They’re the two little words that can bring the conversation of a dozen people to a screeching halt at a dinner party.

Health care.

Regardless of which side your political bread is buttered on, this debate can divide friendships, dissolve professional relationships and complicate legislative power struggles that can last for days, weeks or decades. (look how long Ted Kennedy carried on)

One remaining question, however, has been one of a somewhat philosophical nature. Is health care a privilege or is it a right?

To Conservatives, such as myself, we would naturally observe our Founding papers, as well as our conscience for the answers to this delicate question. According to The Declaration of Independence, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.-“

The answer, therefore, is simple. Certainly, we’re entitled to pursue health care to the maximum of our capacity. I believe it’s a wise idea for employers to offer benefits to their workforce, along with flexible spending plans, medical savings accounts, flexible savings accounts, etc.  Frankly, I cannot imagine going ‘without’ insurance, and feel that health coverage should be budgeted into every family’s ‘fixed’ column, never a variable expense, especially if there are children involved.  It’s imperative to be an educated consumer and in this day and age, there is never an excuse for a company to not have a well-informed Broker on file whose job (and often passion) it is to provide answers to their Client’s employees, save you money and offer as many tax advantages as possible.

America’s health care system is badly in need of repair (such as tort reform for physicians) but still quite a wonderful system, the best in the world, and should NOT be turned over to the federal government. (case in point: Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Auto industry, AIG, Housing industry, Banking industry, VA, Postal system, Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, need I continue?)

Might I point out that the 47 million uninsured number that continues to be tossed about is highly inaccurate. A closer examination shows that the number is much closer to 17 million with the balance discrepancy divided as follows:

Approximately ¼ are eligible for Medicare but have not applied yet or are waiting to hear back from the Government; One sixth are illegal immigrants and although they are to be covered under Obamacare, they are not entitled to benefits; the rest are divided between uninsured Adults and Children – except, that children are insurable under State insurance plans, but parents must apply, Many people assume that if they cannot afford insurance they cannot get it, which is simply not the case. It may seem that most of the uninsured folks are in between jobs, cannot afford insurance (and do not apply for federal and/or state benefits) or choose not to afford it for a number of reasons. They’d rather have a fancy car than pay premiums.

For the Obama Administration to haughtily shove the health care bill through the House and Senate is not only Unconstitutional, it aptly illustrates the level of depravity to which these criminal minded individuals currently at the helm of our Nation are willing to sink in order to seize power and demonstrate their intent on monetary and legal rape of our civil liberties and capitalist system, pushing us deeper under a Marxist regime.

Article 6 of the Constitution requires the members of both houses of Congress to "be bound by oath or affirmation" to support said Constitution, yet I’d be surprised if our Congressional or Senate members are even vaguely aware of its tenants, despite their signatures and oath.

How else do you explain their acts of treason? I’ll explain:

Although the health care bill DOES contain death panels, rationed care, massive pay cuts for physicians (enough to probably guarantee that many will take early retirement and far fewer will enter the practice of medicine) questionable legal practices, tiered decision panels by Government employees, NOT physicians, etc., that is not the main concern with this bill and it’s been overlooked by the American people as well as Congress/Senate but certainly not the Obama Administration, who crafted the bill.

IT DISMANTLES THE CONSTITUTION ITSELF.

Through a massive transfer of power to the Executive Branch, in an effort to change everything about our Nation, it unravels the delicate balance of power hand-crafted by our founding fathers and is quite irreversible. Please go back and re-read the last few lines. They are the most critical of this article.

1)     The Executive, Legislative and Judicial Branches of the U.S. Government will be transferred to the Obama Administration with the signing of this bill. The American people and their businesses will be under Obama’s authority. The odd and ironic part of all of this is that Congress does not have the Constitutional or legal authority to make such changes in the first place.

2)     Links to the Constitution, Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights are provided below for your review. I encourage you to peruse them and become as familiar as possible with these documents.

3)     The health care bill also allows the Obama Administration to access ALL of your personal health care information, financial information, employer records, physician/hospital records, and computerized information.

This is a specific violation of the Third and Fourth amendment.

If you decide to ‘spend’ your budget on something other than health care or” they” disagree with your choice of coverage, under this bill’s provisions, they can impose a fine (yet call it a ‘tax’) and even impose jail time, in direct violation of the Fifth Amendment.

The details are unbelievably complicated but suffice it to say that the Obama Administration has written an extremely offensive bill that is in direct violation with the 3rd, 4th, 5th 6th, 9th and 10th portions of our Founding papers.

And that brings me to my final question and thought: One that I’m SURE Obama thought of but I’m not certain anyone else has. If all power is transferred to the Obama Administration, thereby rendering the Constitution invalid, then Obama can terminate term limits for himself…..can’t he?

Wouldn’t that be something?

The time has come to decide what kind of Nation we want to live in. Exactly one year ago, the sleepy half of the nation voted in a radical marxist who has done nothing but destroy, unravel, embarrass and dismantle everything good and honorable we stand for as patriotic Americans. He lies with a frequency that makes Bill Clinton look like a choir boy,  He's refused to release his records so he could be properly vetted and what he did release has proven to be forged and therefore, fraudulent. Interesting enough, the trial regarding his birth certificate was originally set for January 2010 has been withdrawn, although other channels of justice are in pursuit.

Obama's ideas about  health care are  nothing short of idiotic, skimming from hard working Americans and giving it to illegal aliens, unemployed, welfare, etc. Worse, though, is that it's largely dishonest. Obama, Pelosi and the rest of the 'clowns' are exempt from the new health care plan themselves. It's not appropriate for THEM to decide what WE 'get' for health care especially when they aren't going to have any part of it.

The bill dismantles the Constitution, through an irreversible shift in the balance of power. it steals from tax payers to fund abortions whether we agree with it or not, threatens to incarcerate anyone who fails to insure themselves at the 'Government's' standards and promises to tax everyone for everything including drawing breath.

In short, We've been seized by a marxist coup.

The health care vote will likely come to pass tomorrow and although many Democrats have indicated they will not vote for the bill this is no guarantee. It's imperative these folks hear from their voters.

 Harry Reid's Senate version of ObamaCare hides the $1.8 Trillion price tag by not accounting for actual costs. Massive reductions in Medicare befits to seniors. Major Tax Increases on every American to pay for it all. Reid called for increasing the Medicare payroll tax.

This bill is the worst of all possible bills. It's jammed full of every far-left special interest socialistic dream imaginable. Here's some of what's in its TWO THOUSAND PAGES:


It's estimated that thisbill that the House passed, will cost $1.2 TRILLION over 10 years, including the cost to states for mandated Medicaid expansion ($34 billion),not including additional discretionary spending.

RATHER THAN OFFER TORT REFORM, THE BILL CODDLES TRIAL LAWYERS. The bill gives money (authorized at "such sums") to states that enact "certificate of merit" (a document signed by a medical professional that says there is a probability that the standard of care was violated) and / or a certificate of "early offer" (an early, confidential apology) laws, as long as the states don't limit attorneys' fees or impose caps on damages.

The current version will give billions of dollars of taxpayer healthcare benefits to ILLEGAL ALIENS in America. It would allow them to use the new healthcare "exchange" and would not require verification to keep out of the other parts of the proposed federal healthcare system. Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus fought back against reports that leaders would add Senate language to block illegals  from participating in the insurance exchange.

It will create a nationwide federal government program, the "public option," which will pay for abortion on demand -- with federal funds, of course, because that is what federal agencies spend.

Please make your voice heard. do it as soon as possible. You might not like what America looks like after this weekend.

Why are allowing our laws to be ignored? by Annie Hamilton

It seems inappropriate that we've become a Nation that is oddly comfortable with the notion of ignoring our own laws and standards, completely at ease with our own immorality.


*Our Congress has conducted themselves miserably, engaging in treasonist activity, time and time again, daring us to act, while continuing to fill their greedy pockets with our tax payments. In addition, they knew Obama was ineligible to serve yet did nothing to stop his appointment. . They've been passing legislation without reading bills, passing bills that are unconstitutional, engaging in taxation without representation, taking kickbacks, lying incessantly, parked themselves at the Government teat for decades and in general, becomes the worthless embarrassing bodies that have made us out to be the laughing stock of the World.


*On Sunday, June 27, 2004, a Newspaper came out discussing "Kenyan-born" Barack Obama and his 'race for the Senate' and the issues facing then-Senator Jack Ryan who was wrapped up in a sex club scandal with his actress wife, Jeri of Boston public fame. For ANYONE to say that they didn't know that he was African born is completely full of BS and should be promptly kicked out of Washington - PRONTO!


Judge David O. Carter, former Marine, dismissed the 'birther' case in Orange county, California, stating he didn't feel he had the 'authority' to "overthrow a sitting president" That's funny, I don't remember reading that Judge Carter had his testicles blown off in an act of war? Have you guys? if so, email me and let me know, ok? it's odd that a former marine would allow himself to be intimidated and that's the only other thing this could be. I HATE men who lose their nerve...so unless he's lost his manhood and/or spine, someone's threatened him.


Either way, the situation sucks - because OBAMA DOES NOT BELONG IN OFFICE. HE NEEDS TO BE SHACKLED TO THE SIDE OF A SHIP AND SENT THE BACK TO KENYA.
